Our client owned a single-storey Victorian terrace house in Fitzroy North. A couple with no children, they love entertaining. The small house needed a serious makeover and extension to fit in with their lifestyle and space requirements.
The brief
- Thoroughly modernise the dwelling
- Frequent entertaining lifestyle
- Extend upwards to increase floor area
- Blend indoor and outdoor spaces
- Improve natural light use: south-facing rear
The result
The entire home is redesigned with modern fixtures, fittings, finishes and colour schemes. New large-format windows open the extended lounge area to the rear, small, Japanese-inspired courtyard. High clerestory windows flood the formerly dark south-facing rear living spaces with natural light.
A new kitchen and dining area exudes warm and contemporary confidence. An open, “suspended” staircase to the new first floor creates interest without encroaching on visual space.
Upstairs, a generous master bedroom includes a walk-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom, and a secluded, north-facing balcony for private reflection.
