New house — reinventing a treasured Marysville retreat

Christine & Don

Christine & Don

In the devastating 2009 Victorian Black Saturday fires, Christine and Don’s Marysville home was completely destroyed. After two years contemplating whether to rebuild or not, Christine and Don engaged Teo + Perperis to design a completely new retreat. In this video they describe their experiences and show their new home, situated on a sloping block with a creek meandering through.

The brief

  • Contemporary and casual
  • Capture views of the ranges
  • Take advantage of the site creek
  • Two bedrooms plus office
  • Relaxed and spacious entertaining
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Separation of sleeping and entertainment areas

The result

A cascading pair of pavilions with an entertainment “runway” extend the home amongst trees and to the creek. Smart but casual open spaces provide plenty of opportunity to entertain informally, with sleeping areas separated to minimise noise. A large wood fireplace in the lounge room remains unclad as a design feature. Large picture windows frame views of the ranges.

The client experience

Says Don of their new retreat, “I just love being here.” Christine says “With Teo + Perperis, be prepared to be challenged, but also be prepared for a wow factor at the end. I’m absolutely delighted.” Both warmly recommend Teo + Perperis to others. More…
