Christine and Don wanted a new creation to replace their previous home destroyed in the 2009 Victorian Black Saturday fires. Says Christine, “the whole experience has allowed us to grow and develop, and to learn and appreciate what good design is all about. I don’t know that we really understood that at the start. But now we have a much better understanding of the quality of the work we’ve been a part of, and of the talent that we’ve had the opportunity to benefit from, and that’s a really special thing for us.” “Everyone who visits says ‘wow, this is lovely!‘”
Christine also notes how helpful the Teo + Perperis office was after the design was officially signed off. “Whatever we wanted, whatever we asked for, whatever questions we had, were answered in a really thoughtful and appropriate way.”
“They took a lot of hard work out of the design [for us]. People said ‘you must be at the stage where you’re choosing colours and taps and this and that’, and I was able to say ‘no actually, the architects have done all that.'” “I just love being here,” says Don of their new Teo + Perperis retreat.
Would they recommend Teo + Perperis to others? “Absolutely. We have,” Christine and Don say in unison.

Michael and Cleo had purchased a large but ugly-duckling town house in Camberwell on the promise that they would update it. Teo + Perperis was able to economise on minor renovations and redecorating upstairs so that Michael and Cleo could invest in the living areas downstairs.
“Cheng asked us a lot of questions about how we lived our lives…and how we wanted to live our lives,” says Cleo. Michael adds, “One of the things I found initially was that the vision Cheng gave us for how much of a difference we could make to our lifestyle was challenging for me. But once I understood what was behind it, it all started to come together and we developed a trust about the details.”
Teo + Perperis’ Detailed Plans and Interior Design services came to their rescue. “We simply weren’t equipped to make all those decisions” says Michael, both in terms of skills and available time. Cleo enthuses that “for us it was an easy process because we worked closely with both Cheng and John…and for us the stress was reduced.”

“Hi Cheng and John,
Just a quick note to say how rapt we are with our “new” old home. You were good at understanding what we wanted—we’re not sure we really knew ourselves (!), other than the fact that we had outgrown our last seriously dated renovation.
Luckily we didn’t go with our first brief to you or we would have ended up with yet another oversized two story house in Camberwell.
— Christine and Terry, Camberwell
Instead, what we have now is a beautiful, light-filled period home which has retained a lot of its quaint elegance, but with lots of modern twists. We love it. We get a lot of compliments on the house—people seem really impressed with the transformation. The black and glass powder room is my favourite.
Thanks for pushing our boundaries: it has exactly the right mix of whimsy and elegance we desired.
Please pass on our compliments to the office crew too. They were so helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with.
Finally, I hope we stay in touch. We will need you for our next house…(just kidding Terry!) Terry is so pleased because at last I have my dream home and he won’t have to move again!

Clive and Fiona’s beautiful Edwardian Middle Park home wasn’t large enough to accommodate their frequent guests, and extending outwards wasn’t an option on the small inner-urban block. So Teo + Perperis designed an in-roof conversion to create a new, light-filled retreat serving as both a bedroom and reading room. Says Clive, “I thought we were going to have a workable space, but Teo + Perperis’s ideas were to take it a little bit further. Our neighbours came upstairs and can’t believe that we’ve got so much value out of a roof space.”

“Teo + Perperis have completed a couple of residential town house projects for us, and we are in the process of using their services yet again for another project.
Cheng and his team take the time to ask questions, challenge us to think about what we want, and what our real overall goals are. With the ability to really listen intently and offer insight, they have been able to provide a whole host of ways of meeting our objectives, while keeping an eye on the budget and time-line.
Our builder, who has worked with many architects, says Teo + Perperis is the easiest architecture firm he has ever worked with and he has done a few jobs with Cheng since.
We would strongly recommend Cheng and his firm to anyone looking for architectural design.”

“Three years after the renovation is completed, I am still thrilled with transformation of my house. The architects of Teo + Perperis transformed a significantly dilapidated and cramped one bedroom home into a spacious two story home that is both attractive and functional.
“I had an idea of what I wanted when we started and they took those ideas and designed what I wanted, but also made fantastic suggestions that never would have occurred to me.
“I was really impressed and pleased with Teo + Perperis throughout the whole process. Not only did they design a house that met my needs, but they also acted as project managers during the building process and worked incredibly hard to make sure that everything was a success. I recommend Teo + Perperis to anyone who is looking to renovate and/or rebuild, and wants to combine livability with originality.”

“About ten years ago now I engaged Teo + Perperis Architects to design a town house development on my behalf, consisting of the design concept, engineering and detail specification, VCAT negotiations, quotations and building contract administration.
I found throughout all proceedings a very high level of professionalism, for what became a very successful project.
The design advice and end result proved very successful. The space planning, colour schemes, textures, furniture and architectural features all worked very well.
I still live in one of the units today, and still enjoy the environment. I have no hesitation to highly recommend Teo + Perperis Architecture and Design.”
